WAHGA ACTIVITIES 2022/23

  • Renewals in September.  New members join via Membermojo.

  • Membership reduced to £0 until September 2024

  • Today WAHGA has 358 members.

  • 45 of whom are new WAHGA members in 2023

  • Provided 1-1 mentoring and adhoc advice to many plot-holders.  

  • Volunteers have helped to dig over, strim and tidy plots for those who need temporary help.  Putting up guttering to collect rain water for water butts. One on one fruit tree pruning sessions.

  • Quiz nights held on 12 November 2022 and18 March 2023 (St James Church Hall).  162 members/friends attended 

  • Teas & Coffees on site in May /June this year.  More to come.  

  • 50 people came to summer picnic & prize-giving on 13th August

  • Our next quiz night will be held on Saturday 25th November

  • There were 55 Sunflower competition entries (32 junior and 23 senior members..

  • 4 junior members won prizes (nature sticker books and certificates) for the tallest and widest sunflowers

  • Julie Jacob - RHS Merrist Wood Instructor (and allotment gardener) engaged for plot judging.  Revamped criteria published to all members, and all entrants received scores & detailed written feedback.

  • Plot Judging took place on 26 July 2023.  18 plots entered and results were announced on 13 August.  There were 6 plots awarded with vouchers for McLaren’s Fine Foods at the summer picnic event

  • WAHGA website revamped to include more horticultural tips and techniques, articles, wildlife and sustainability information and other helpful advice.   ‘Jobs for the Month’ published

  • 187 members in the WAHGA Allotments Facebook group.   301 posts added since August 2022.

  • 5 fully charged cordless strimmers.

  • Available for members to borrow at pre-arranged times at no cost

  • The Sharing Table encourages recycling and re-use.  Our aim is that members don’t need to buy new plastic but re-use what is already available for sharing

  • The Sharing table has been really successful.  Miles of cardboard have been and gone.  Lots of seedlings, plant pots and other useful items have been donated and taken for re-use.  

  • Over the summer there's been a lot of produce sharing - especially marrows!

  • Actively promoted more sustainable horticultural techniques.  We continue to record, preserve and help enhance the unique biodiversity on the site.

  • WAHGA volunteers continue to actively promote activities and cultivation methods which improve the biodiversity and sustainability of members’ growing spaces.
