Sharing Our Produce with St James Church

Over the summer plot-holders have donated spare produce which has been taken to St James Church on Sunday mornings. It has been very much appreciated!
PLOT JUDGING

Julie Jacob - RHS Merrist Wood Instructor (and allotment gardener) engaged for plot judging. Revamped criteria published to all members, and all entrants received scores & detailed written feedback.

Plot Judging took place on 30 July 2024. 16 plots entered.

There were 5 plots winners awarded with vouchers for Valentina's at the summer picnic event

Sharing, Re-use and Recycling

The Sharing Table encourages recycling and re-use. Our aim is that members don’t need to buy new plastic but re-use what is already available for sharing

The Sharing table has been really successful. Miles of cardboard have been and gone. Lots of seedlings, plant pots and other useful items have been donated and taken for re-use.

Over the summer there's been a lot of produce sharing - especially marrows!

WAHGA website revamped to include more horticultural tips and techniques, articles, wildlife and sustainability information and other helpful advice. 'Jobs for the Month' published.

Practical Help & Advice for Plot-Holders

Provided 1-1 mentoring and adhoc advice to many plot-holders.

Volunteers have helped to dig over, strim and tidy plots for those who need temporary help. Putting up guttering to collect rain water for water butts. One on one fruit tree pruning sessions.
Wildlife, Biodiversity & Sustainability
-
Actively promoted more sustainable horticultural techniques. We continue to record, preserve and help enhance the unique biodiversity on the site.

WAHGA volunteers continue to actively promote activities and cultivation methods which improve the biodiversity and sustainability of members’ growing spaces.
